The asker has given us a definition. The drive, volume or virtual disk being used is for temporary storage of files exclusively for the purpose of exchanging them. It is clearly what is referred to as a file exchange (or sometimes "data exchange") drive.
Imo, using "virtual disk" would simply be misleading and non-standard. "Volume" is neither much used nor very transparent either. The most common term for in this context is certainly "drive".
Incidentally, I prefer "file exchange .." over "data exchange.." because the former makes it clear that we're talking about discrete bundles of data packed in files rather than, e.g. data streams. |
