I posted this question in the German-Spanish language pair, but the responses I´ve gotten so far are not quite clear. A translation into plain English would be very helpful.

Explanation:
I see "vorbehaltlich der Einlösung" as meaning that you accept the cheque on condition that the bank subsequently honours it - i.e. it's not the cheque itself that you actually want but the money that is paid out when the cheque is redeemed.

erfüllungshalber - meaning something like "as a means of performance" is saying more or less the same thing - i.e. the cheque itself is not the thing you want, but it is a means of obtaining performance (the handing over of the actual money). The point is that the cheque itself is not the payment, although if all goes well it will result in you getting the payment.

There are several references in the glossaries to erfüllungshalber which may be helpful.
