Explanation:
'Eigen' conveys the idea of 'of his own accord' or 'unilaterally', IMHO.
You will need to reword the subordinate clause to make it read elegant in English. If you think it appropriate, you may even want to consider the possibility of avoiding the use of the subordinate clause (after wobei, I mean) altogether and starting with a fresh sentence instead.
