Patentanspruch

Maybe I just need a rest but I can't work this one out!

... characterised by the openings that ????? (make) the contact between the atmosphere on the interior of the panes and the drying agent inside the space on the sides of the bar (are?) attached by drilling or slashing, which (which what?) are glued to the panes.

All help appreciated! Thanks

English translation:Somebody lost it (herstellen = create)
Explanation:
I would add "herstellen" and a comma after "Abstandhalters"
And "dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass" is "characterised by the fact that"

The invention here seems to be the spacers for multiple glazing panels,
"characterised by the fact that the openings which create the contact between the atmosphere between the glass panes and the drying agent inside the spacer are provided by holes or slits at the side of the bars that are glued to the panes of glass".

Sounds like a nifty idea to prevent condensation inside double/triple glazing.

agree  Brie Vernier: Yes, but "characteri(s/z)ed *in* that" is more common -- google both and look at the difference in the results (not just the number of results, but the context of the results themselves)

-> Yes, googling both as phrases plus "patent" makes your point - both versions possible, but the shorter version is much more common.
