German to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general)
German term or phrase: eingetragener Verein
Es ist mir klar, dass die _Übersetzung_ von "eingetragener Verein" ist "registered association".
Meine Frage ist aber eine andere: wie würde man das Konzept von einem e.V. für die USA und Australien lokalisieren? Damit ein deutsches Dokument evtl. als Modell für liierten Gruppen in diesen 2 Ländern als Hilfestellung dienen könnte. "Voluntary association" scheint gängig in den USA zu sein, ich bin aber nicht sicher. Was gängig in Australien wäre habe ich keine Ahnung.

incorporated association (in Australia)

Explanation:
http://www.consumer.tas.gov.au/business_affairs/incorporated...

Many clubs and special interest groups become Incorporated Associations to benefit their members and to protect them from the debts and liabilities of the association.

Incorporation is a voluntary, simple and inexpensive means of establishing a legal entity. It is an alternative to forming, for example, a company limited by guarantee or a cooperative, and is particularly suitable for small, community-based groups.

Incorporating establishes your association as a legal entity, which allows your association to:

continue regardless of changes to membership;
accept gifts and bequests;
buy and sell property;
enter into enforceable contracts;
sue or be sued; and
apply for Government grants.
Incorporated Associations should be non-profit organisations. This means that any profits made should be used to further the objectives of the association, not provide personal gain for its members.

I guess I would add a translator's note saying that an "eingetragener Verein" in Germany is similar to the concept of an incorporated association in Oz.

disagree  mary austria: This is not limited to non-profit organizations. For example, in Austria the political parties are also "eingetragene Vereine."

  -> That may be, but if you look at Elizabeth's explanatory comment, she is talking about a non-charitable non-profit organization./Interesting point, though: Are political parties for-profit in Austria?

agree  Kevin Fulton: "Non-profit" used in US

  -> Thanks, Kevin

neutral  gangels: I only know "not-for-profit" (benevolent associations, trusts etc.) in Illinois, never heard of 'no-profit' by design

  -> If you read the Wikipedia entry or checked a few of the 10 million Google hits, it might be clearer to you.
