But my personal preference is "effective". This is based on my professional experience as approvals engineer. I always noted a mention like "revision effective on ...". I cite: "Those (requirements) that require action to determine compliance habve a future Effective Date of Sept. 17, 2010, and those theat require no action are effective on the date of publication" (taken from a Standard Update Notice for UL 1598 3rd Ed. with rev. trough and including Feb. 20, 2009 - Luminaries.)
Comment: This is no literal translation for "Gültigsetzung", but comprehensive. Note: "Gültig setzen" sounds very clumsy, unhandy and overblown to me, a German engineer, who is still familiar with terms of rules and regulations.
Not much context, really. A technical standard operating procedure describing, among others, training of shipping personnel (FedEx).
I simply do not understand the German word 'Gueltigsetzung', that's all. If I had to guess, I'd say "entering into force", but it's a wild wild guess. A far shot.
