German to English translations [PRO]
Law/Patents - Law (general)
German term or phrase: Austauschverfahren
"Die verwendeten Transportbehelfe werden im Austauschverfahren rückgeführt". This sentence (from a suppply contract) comes up out of the blue in a paragraph on its own, so that there isn't any obvious further context.

English translation:"exchange procedure"
Explanation:
I think you can call it this. What is happening is that the equipment used in the transport process (probably pallets, packaging, etc.) is returned as part of an exchange procedure, in other words, you don't necessarily get back the actual item you sent but an equivalent to rationalise the return process. It's a bit like a "pool" operation. Everyone gets something back but the equipment keeps on circulating

Thanks especially for your explanation: I had already come up with your translation, but had not realized exactly what the idea behind it was.
