German to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Law (general) / insurance
German term or phrase:Verlangen nach Absatz 1 ab stellen
I am translating Sections of the German Insurance Contract Act
In my translation of Sec. 51 (1) I have:
If it ensues that the sum insured significantly exceeds the value of the interest insured (value insured), both the insurer and the policyholder may demand that the sum insured be reduced by reducing the premium proportionately with immediate effect, in order to eliminate overinsurance.
In (2)I have started:
If the overinsurance is caused by an event of war or by an administrative measure on the occasion of a war or it is the inevitable consequence of a war,
This continues (in German) "so kann der Versicherungsnehmer das Verlangen nach Absatz 1 mit Wirkung vom Eintritt der Überversicherung ab stellen."
I am presuming "ab stellen" should be written together as "abstellen".
I checked the PROZ Glossary and found various answers.
I am still not certain in my context whether I should use
1. Take into account / rely on / focus on
2. Cease / terminate
The difference of meaning here is fundamental.
Also, could "ab stellen" lead to a different interpretation?
Can anybody help me further?
