could be employed Explanation: They are talking about the placemnt of trainees, but I would assume that they get paid for the job they are doing. So we are talking about proper employment. Good luck! |

could take part or could participate Explanation: I think it is more a matter of giving the interns/trainees/practical trainees, whatever term you want, a chance to actively do something of use to them in their work at home rather than to use or employ them. - HTH - dan |

. . . could become active/could work/could do their service . . . Explanation: I don't think that "employed" is the right translation, because they are already employed and the context is, where/in what area they can be active/working. taetig werden=to take an active part in s.th., (beruf. taetig sein)to be employed, to work, to have a job -- this one I don't think applies -- taetig sein als=1. to work as 2. to have a job as 3. to act as (im Sinne von Funktion)-to function as good luck, Lis Muret-Sanders |

an answer to your second question Explanation: That part means that the practical trainees are allowed to participate at the levels of command and types of assignment as similar as possible to the work they do at home. A captain works with captains and a corporal works with corporals. An airport guard from wherever, guards airports in Germany. - HTH - Dan |

assign ... to duties here Explanation: >>The [Federal Frontier Guard Office/Agency] did everything possible to assign the trainees/student employees/interns to duties here that would be analogous to their actual duties back in their own country, both with respect to rank as to type of work.<< HTH Tom |
