What does the "Oberfläche" mean here? How can the flies be prevented from laying eggs on the warm and wet surface if part of the skin is also removed ?:-)

Thanks in advance!

English translation:surface
Explanation:
The skin is the warm, moist surface. If it is removed, the flies have no inviting surface on which to lay their eggs.

neutral  David Willett: I think Jianming was wondering why the flies would consider flayed flesh to be any less of a warm, moist, inviting surface than skin :(

-> Well, I'm not a fly, David, but if I were, I don't know how attractive I would find that option ... I might prefer to go in search of an as-yet-unsheared sheep, whose wool will offer some protection for my eggs : )

agree  Maurite Fober: This practice is called mulesing. Try googling "sheep mulesing" and you'llfind Dept of Agriculture factsheet that describes it as "the wool-bearing skin" surface. Also, John Howard is not the Premier, he's the Prime Minister!
