German term or phrase: nach grober Zerkleinerung
Study to examine the effects of a plant protection product on the reproduction of Japanese quails

Under ‘Spermatidenzählung’ Dazu [to carry out the Spermatidenzählung] wurde jeweils der linke Hoden nach grober Zerkleinerung mittels des Homogenisators ........unter Zugabe von 0,05% Triton X-100 in 0,9%iger Kochsalzlösung homogenisiert.

Possibly, comminution could be used for Zerkleinerung but I was stuck for a word for ‘grob’

agree  John Speese: Agree, and you could also say grinding, milling, or shredding as well as comminution

-> Thanks, I personally would prefer e.g. size reduction as the method of comminution is not really known.

agree  Armorel Young: and agree with John (but I wouldn't go for "chopping", which sounds like a cook at work in a kitchen)
