German to English translations [PRO]
Science - Livestock / Animal Husbandry
German term or phrase: Djong
From a text about Sikkim:

Jede Trekkergruppe wird von einem erfahrenen guide geführt. Ein Koch sorgt für die Ernährung unterwegs, mehrere Träger und horsemen mit ihren kleinen Tibetpferden tragen Lebensmittel, Gepäck, Zelte und die Kücheneinrichtung. Zum Teil werden auch Djongs, eine urwüchsige Mischung zwischen Tieflandrindern und Yaks, eingesetzt.

'Djong' - any ideas what this animal would be called in English?

many thanks

English translation:dzo or zho
Explanation:
Wikipedia says: "In Tibet and Mongolia, yaks are quite often cross-bred to dairy cattle, the result being known as dzo or zho. The offspring are used as milk cows, if female, or as oxen of burden, if male"

This would seem to be the animal to which your text refers.

Example sentence(s):
  • A dzo (Tibetan མཛོ་ mdzo) is a hybrid of yak and domestic cattle. The word dzo technically refers to a male hybrid, while a female is known as a dzomo or zhom.
