Danjela: 8:26pm Mar 5, 2005: Okay - so I don't see why it should be confidential. I still think that this choice concerns the distribution of the book, either the one to whom it is given will have the next revision of the handbook, too (überwacht) or not (if it is only for info. -

Can someone give me an ISO or QS interpretation definition of what is a "Controlled and Uncontrolled Copy" I would like to know when a company should consider what they must control and what they can consider for reference use only.
A Controlled copy is always at the correct/latest revision level. When a change is made, it is retreived and replaced.
An Uncontrolled copy is a bit harder to get you hands around, and is where the variation comes in. Other than it is not replaced when a new rev is issued.....it could mean anything.

Uncontrolled copies of the EMS Manual may be distributed outside of WSU's EH&S (e.g. other activities, departments, facilities or other interested parties either internal or external to WSU). All uncontrolled copies are to be marked "Uncontrolled-For Reference Only".

Danjela, I fully agree with your interpretation of what an "Ãœberwachtes Exemplar" is, but it seems that "controlled copy" is the standard term used in English.
