German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Manufacturing / Requirements in the case of errors | | German term or phrase: Anzeigen | 5.4 Fehlerbewertung:
I have:
Indices differentiate between linear (Length > 3 - subject width) and non-linear during the evaluation of weld seam imperfections in the magnetic powder testing method. DIN EN 1291 Acceptance Limit 1 must be used for evaulation in connection with the following:
- Non-linear Indices: ...etc.
Maybe it is views, displays, etc.??? |
| | Clarification request(s) and responseKen Cox: 9:38am Sep 21, 2005: '3 - fache' should be read as 'dreifache' (many German writers these days seem to have lost all understanding of how to use hyphens). - RNolder (asker): 2:37pm Sep 21, 2005: 'dreifache' - Thank you Kenneth!

| | indications | Explanation: In the magnetic particle method, a liquid suspension of magnetic particles is applied to the surface and a magnetic field is induced into the metal. Concentrated magnetic fields occur at fractures and gaps in the surface, and these fields attract the magnetic particles, which thus cluster along the outlines of the fractures or gaps.
The particle clusters indicate the locations and shapes of the defects, and the term used in EC documents is 'indication'.
(In any case, not 'indices', which is the plural of 'index').

[PDF] PHASE I: Current Status of the Inspection Methodologies FINAL REPORT
Magnetic particle inspection:
In accordance with EN 1291 acceptance level 1, Linear indications exceeding 1.5 mm and non-linear indications exceeding 2mm are not permitted.
Penetrant methods:
In accordance with EN 1289 acceptance level 1, Linear indications exceeding 2 mm and nonlinear indications exceeding 4 mm are not permitted. |
