German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Manufacturing / Forming techniques
German term or phrase: Klappentechnik
From a document from an underfloor heating manufacturer discussing the possible methods for producing a formed sheet that can be used for fitting underfloor heating pipes. Hard to describe, but it looks something like this (without the pipe): http://www.multitherm.net/images/MTP5ue.gif

"Tiefziehfolienherstellung mittels Klappentechnik bzw. evtl mittels Filmscharniertechnik."

The sheet is designed to roll up for transportation, so I'm guessing that this just means they use separate hinges, instead of forming hinges into the plastic, but of course I might be wrong!

TIA for you ideas.

English translation:rigid hinges/hinge method
Explanation:
Hi Stephen. I think the good old Viennese plumbers are trying to sound a bit high-tech here. I believe what they are trying to get at is that strips of insulating material are shrink-wrapped in plastic foil and the gaps between individual strips are either fitted with rigid hinges or flexible (plastic) hinges to achieve the caterpillar effect required to make a roll of the stuff. The schematic on top of the website below might help to visualise this.
