German term or phrase: Strahlenquelle
Hi all,

I am translating web texts relating to laser fabrication.

The sentence reads "Für die Laser-Feinbearbeitung setzen wir als ***Strahlenquellen*** ausschließlich gepulste Nd:YAG-Festkörperlaser ein."

I am not sure whether a laser qualifies as "radiation source" as it emits light and not gamma radiation.

Laser source?

radiation source
Explanation:
"laser radiation" is very common, e.g. in occupational health and safety. (See reference below.)
My preference would be to use "laser radiation source" the first time, and then "laser source" for subsequent occurrences. That is what I would do if I were the translator. (See 2nd reference below -- patent title.)

laser source

Explanation:
"Radiation" is not just about gamma radiation. A laser indeed is a source of electromagnetic radiation: light. Still, "laser source" seems to be what you're looking for here.

source (laser source or light source)

Explanation:
alone will also work, as it is clear from the context that it refers to laser radiation.

CHAPTER 3: LASER SOURCE
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation, commonly referred to as "Laser" describes a wide range of devices. The lasers can function as oscillators (sources of light) and as amplifiers.
http://www.google.de/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CDgQFjAA&...

A laser is a device that emits light (electromagnetic radiation) through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of photons. The term "laser" originated as an acronym for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.[1][2] The emitted laser light is notable for its high degree of spatial and temporal coherence, unattainable using other technologies.
:
This unique property of laser light, spatial coherence, cannot be replicated using standard light sources (except by discarding most of the light) as can be appreciated by comparing the beam from a flashlight (torch) or spotlight to that of almost any laser.
:
Another method of achieving pulsed laser operation is to pump the laser material with a source that is itself pulsed, either through electronic charging in the case of flash lamps, or another laser which is already pulsed.
