German term or phrase:Gedenkprägung
I'm looking for a word to signify a collectable metal object which has been stamped like a coin but has no monetary value whatsoever. There are thirteen metal objects altogether. One circular one and twelve fan-shaped ones to surround it.
I had initially thought of "commemorative coin" but the client informed it has no monetary value which is why it is not a "Münze" more a "Medaillen".
Would the word "medallion" fit into this context? Or what else do we call a "coin" which isn't a "coin"?
Explanation: My feeling is that this might be the term used by coin collectors in this context.
"Gedenkprägung" and "Medaille" are often referred to as virtual synonyms and, provided that you don't have to use both terms in one sentence, wouldn't "commemorative medal" do?

Medal:
A medal, or more specifically a commemorative medal, is generally a round metallic object which is manufactured to commemorate some person, thing, or event of historical interest and importance. Unlike coins, a medal has no intrinsic monetary value; its worth is dependent upon its artistic quality, historical importance, age, rarity, condition, size, and metallic composition. http://www.historicalartmedals.com/MEDAL WEB ENTRIES/BIOSKET...
perhaps a term like "commemorative piece(s)" might work here, given that the "Gedenkprägung" is essentially a piece of metal struck with a design to commemorate something/someone.
This was a tough one but I have decided to go for this answer as "token" does have some kind of value in whatever form. 4 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Since the client also produces legal tender commemorative coins, I can understand them wanting a different term, and would hence not use 'coin' in this context - even though I don't feel it would actually be wrong.
Is "commemorative coin" wrong in this context, do you think? Looking at various minting and issuing websites they usually specify when a "coin" is legal tender. This coin is only gold-plated and will (presumably) have a collector's value.
If yes, perhaps you may like to compare it with the pictures of a 'medallion' on Google images and see for yourself whether yours can be called a medallion or not.

commemorative mint(age)
Explanation: Simply. This way you won't define those coins as a means of currency.

Explanation: I actually prefer your 'commemorative coin', so this is only a suggestion if the client really continues to object to coin.
Token is used for fake coins to go in lockers or trolleys.

Asker: Thanks for your help. I decided to go with commemorative medal as a token does have some kind of value even if it is not monetary.

Asker: Yes, it does seem that way. It is just that the client has said he feels the word "coin" is "falsch". Of course, if I insist they will no doubt print it but I just need affirmation from my peers that I am correct and haven't overlooked any hidden meanings.
