German to English translations [PRO]
Marketing - Marketing / Market Research
German term or phrase: Übergriffig
[Chocolate bar] XYZ hat aber auch etwas Übergriffiges:

„XYZ ist so mächtig. Von Mars läuft der Karamell überall raus und klebt dann überall.“

„XYZ muss man in einem Stück essen, kann nicht einteilen oder aufhören.“

„Heute muss alles schlank und fit sein. So wurde XYZ zum Teufel.“

This is from a morphological market research report about chocolate bar XYZ. The quotes in quotes are quotes (!) from participants in a focus group

Does anyone have any inkling what "übergriffig" could mean here?

Many thanks

Ian

English translation:intimidating/imposing / naughty
Explanation:
"intimidating/imposing" due to the chunkiness/size of it, OR "naughty" in the sense of roguish (as in the last example)
Depends on what they were referring to, of course.

- daunting/challenging?

compelling

Explanation:
I looked up "overpowering" in my synonym book: overwhelming, irresistible (although there are other words for that)

XYZ is a force to be reckoned with

Explanation:
- it's chunky and compact (better than Mars, which is messy/sticky)
- it's compelling - perhaps even a bit daunting in size - can't be shared or divided up
- is compared to the devil/something wicked
