Auch noch so gute Marktforschung vermag eben nicht vor einer Überbesetzung vermeintlicher Marktnischen zu schützen - jedenfalls dann nicht, wenn in allen Medienhäusern etwa zeitgleich dieselben Marktnischen identifiziert werden und die Verlage alle - wie die Lemminge - mit "gelifteten" oder neu entwickelten Objekten diese Nischen besetzen.

I need to find a good equivalent for this in English that more than likely will not include the "Lemminge".

agree  Charles Stanford: I go along with that - the lifting is in the sense of what you do to your chest rather than plagiarised!! Perhaps rehashed isn't quite the right word but it is better than anything I can think of - perhaps "souped up"
