German term or phrase: Äquivalenz
ProZ Team,

I am working on a Risk Management document and I want to make sure I have this term straight.

The definition, as it appears in the document:
Ein Schaden beruht dann kausal auf bestimmten Umständen, wenn diese nicht hinweggedacht werden können, ohne das zugleich auch der Schaden entfiele.

My rough translation:
Damage is causally based on certain circumstances only if these cannot be assumed away without at the same time omitting the damage also.

Very rough, I know. Any help would be much appreciated.

Schoensten Dank!

efreitag: 5:03pm Apr 28, 2008: Zumindest "only" scheint mir auf jeden Fall falsch, denn das steht nicht im Original (das hieße "beruht nur dann kausal...").
Nicholas Krivenko: 5:08pm Apr 28, 2008: I agree with Efreitag. "Damage is then causally based... when...".
Darin Fitzpatrick: 6:51pm Apr 28, 2008: Are you sure this is the term you want to ask about? It does not appear in your text.
Nicholas Krivenko: 6:58pm Apr 28, 2008: I assumed this was the heading.
treychic: 8:09pm Apr 28, 2008: it is the heading. thanks for the help so far.
Nicholas Krivenko: 8:30pm Apr 28, 2008: My pleasure. I think these headings are quite straightforward based on the definition you have so helpfully provided. Google them with "risk" attached.
