neutral  Zareh Darakjian Ph.D.: Ambiguous. Could be tangent chord angle, cantal chord angle, peripheral chord angle...

angle subtended by the chord

Explanation:
This is the correct expression, mathematically speaking.

Still, this could be peripheral (inscribed) or central chord angle. However, this level of ambiguity is present in the source, because it does not matter here.. However, chord angle, which also includes tha tangent chord angle would not be correct here. Additionally, chord angle is not as accepted as "angle subtended by a chord"... in the discipline of geometry.

The utility of the subtended angle by a hord is that it is a direct measure of the measure of the angle itself. Thus, a chord subtended by a 60 degree central angle has a measure of 60 degrees itself. The same chord, will ba associated with a peripheral (inscribed) subtended angle of only 30 degrees. This is because the peripheral angle is always half the measure of the central angle, provided their legs terminate on the same points of intersection of the chord with the circle.
