This is a certificate from the Montessori Fachoberschule. In the mathematics section, under the heading "Quadratische Funktionen", one subject is called "Nullstellen mit Fallunterscheidung ".

The "Fallunterscheidung" mentioned here relates to the discriminant. In a quadratic equation: ax2 + bx + c, the discriminant (b2 - 4ac) determines if we have real roots, double roots, or maginary roots. If it is > 0, then we have two distinct roots, if = 0, then we have a degenerate root, if negative, then we have imaginary roots.
