German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering / welding terms
German term or phrase: Schweißdome und Schweißrippen
"Schweißdome und Schweißrippen an Blende oben nicht zur Deckfläche verrundet"
I can almost visualize it, but have no clue what they are called.
Schweißdome = caterpillars ??
Schweißrippen = ridges ??

English translation:spot weld and weld bead
Explanation:
Believe they're talking about the methods used to join two plastic panels. Manufacturers often use a small post or sprue (about 4mm dia) which fits into a corresponding hole on the adjoining panel. Once the two pieces are joined, they apply a heat/pressure source to the head of the post, melting it into a rivet-like dome. It's essentially the plastic equivalent of a spot weld. They also sometimes join panels by welding, resulting in a raised seam, or weld bead, on the inside of the part. In general, neither is intended to be visible on the outer surface of the part.
