German term or phrase: help with sentence
Hierbei wird der Regelkolben durch das gestaute Hydrauliköl gegen den vorderen Kolben gedrückt, *wodurch die Bohrung in der Kolbenstange frei wird*.
I'm having trouble with the 2nd part of the sentence.

OR
.. which causes the hole in the piston rod to become free/to open

agree  Robert Schlarb: "freeing the hole in the piston rod" or even "opening the hole" (i.e. previously closed by hydraulic oil)
