Ventricular Demand Pacemaker (VVI):

This is by far the most common type of pacemaker. It senses spontaneous ventricular impulses and paces the ventricles only when needed.

Pacemakers can be described according to the chamber paced, the chamber sensed, and the response of the pacemaker to the sensed impulse. A three-letter code correlating to these categories is used to describe pacemaker types. For example, a VVI pacemaker paces the ventricles, senses the ventricles, and is inhibited when it senses a beat.
