Medical - Medical: Cardiology
German term or phrase: EK

Abkuerzung?

Clarification request(s) and response
Christine Lam (asker): 6:36pm Sep 4, 2004: For Gilberto: would this mean the patient was substituted with 2 doses of packed red blood cells?
Gilberto Lacchia: 6:39pm Sep 4, 2004: Yes, I think so. Usually the PRBCs "doses" are called "units". -

Erythrozytenkonzentrat
Explanation:
This seems to make more sense: due to the blood loos, the patient received two units of red blood cells.

ECG

Explanation:
From Pchyrembel, it appears that "EK" is another term for "EKG" (Elektrokardiogramm), and the above is the English equivalent of EKG, electrocardiogram.

If you go with the less formal \"red blood cell concentrate\", the abbreviation should be \"RBCC\", not \"RBC\" as you entered in the glossary!
