"Entsprechend dem erforderlichen Korrekturumfang wird ein geeigneter Lagerfräser ausgewählt und ein Knochenlager ***vorgefräst***. Die dabei anfallenden Knochenspäne werden in einem Bone-Collector gesammelt."

From a text about a bone transplant procedure in dentistry. I have "roughen" in my glossary for vorfräsen, which is from the Laixicon dictionary. But that doesn't really work here. What might other meanings for this word be? Pre-cut, maybe? TIA for your help.
