German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Medical: Dentistry / Casting Muffles
German term or phrase: 9-fach Muffel
"Bei einer ***9-fach-Muffel*** werden 450 gr Pulver und 99 ml Flüssigkeit benötigt.

Sobald die Muffel soweit gefüllt ist, daß die Gußobjekte fast bedeckt sind, wird weitere Einbettmasse nur noch sehr langsam zugefügt."

From a text about dental precision casting. I haven't the faintest idea what is meant by "9-fach Muffel". The best I can guess is size 9 muffle or muffle with 9 trays or compartments. Hope someone here has a better idea than I do! TIA for your help.

Clarification request(s) and response
Rowan Morrell (asker): 5:03am Oct 12, 2004: A little more context - From a couple of paragraphs down:

"Die Aufheizzeit einer ***9-fach-Muffel*** beträgt insgesamt etwa 200 Minuten."

Does that trigger any extra ideas?

I'm extremely doubtful about "9-part", especially when no credible references or explanations are provided. Please, someone answer who has SOME knowledge of this subject! You don't really need to know about dentistry, just a basic understanding of casting will do!
Rowan Morrell (asker): 6:57am Oct 12, 2004: Come on, come on - The lack of decent answers here is really frustrating. :-(
Rowan Morrell (asker): 7:31am Oct 12, 2004: Aha! - Yes, "Size 9 muffle" just might be it! Nice one Jill! Now we're cooking! Thanks! :-)

Whatever it is, it appears to be quite large judging by the amount of mix being made up

This seems by far the most likely solution, in view of that earlier question and the references you provided. So thanks Jill - you've saved the day here! But thanks anyway to JM Simon as well for having a go. Appreciate everyone's efforts.
