Ja genau, die Fachterminologie der HNO-Ärzte und der HG-Branche überschneiden sich zwar, weisen aber auch etliche Unterschiede auf.

mit "nicht richtiges Deutsch" meinte ich eigentlich den Satzanfang "Ein Erlebnisstation, an denen", Sprachverstehen im Störschall habe ich nicht moniert.
Störgeräusche werden im medizinischen Bereich durchaus mit extraneous noise übersetzt, ein medizinischer Fachbegriff also, kein Ausdruck von "Laien" - das mag im Hörsystemebereich durchaus anders sein

Wenn die Zielgruppe deiner Übersetzung ebenfalls Fachleute sind (wie ja auch die Hörgeräte-Akustiker, an die sich die deutsche Version richtet), dann solltest du nicht mit "how speech sounds when subjected to noise" umschreiben, sondern schon die gängige Fachterminologie verwenden (siehe Antwort unten).
Wenn deine Übersetzung dagegen für Laien gedacht ist, könntest du vielleicht in folgende Richtung gehen:
"the intelligibility of speech in environments with background noise".

Genau, in der Hörgeräte-Branche verstehen wir "noise" als "unwanted" sound.

Der englische Fachbegriff für Störschall/Störgeräusche ist einfach nur "noise"; wenn du "extraneous/interfering" oder Sonstiges anfügst, outest du dich bzw. deinen Kunden als Laien. :-) Sprachverstehen ist mehr als nur "wie Sprache klingt". Moderne Hörsysteme/Hörgeräte können z. B. zwischen Sprach- und Störsignalen unterscheiden, Störgeräusche dämpfen und die Sprachanteile hervorheben. Gutes Sprachverstehen ist eines der wichtigsten Ziele bei der Nutzung von Hörgeräten.

... ist absolut richtiges (Fach)Deutsch. Und ja, Störschall = Störgeräusche, störende Hintergrundgeräusche. Hightech-Hörsysteme besitzen Features zur Unterstützung des Verstehens von Sprache in Situationen mit störenden Hintergrundgeräuschen.

the given sentence doesn't sound proper German - however, Störschall is something like extraneous noise (Störgeräusch) or possibly interfering resonance ... just thinking (I am still trying to understand the German version)

Stefanie Rasmussen: "Ambient" (o. Ä.) bei Erklärungen für Fachfremde macht durchaus Sinn, ist unter Fachleuten in der HG-Branche aber nicht notwendig.

-> THX; "noise" is unwanted sound, correct. But, as everyone of us knows, in a particular acoustic situation it may vary considerably which sound sources are wanted and which are not. Thus, the term "Störschall" is far away from being undisputed in audiology

It's a station that demonstrates how speech comprehension is affected by (background/ambient/interfering) noise (interference/signal). Probably a set of headphones playing an interfering signal. It has little to do with intelligibility or recognition, because this is about hearing and speech and not language in general, e.g. a stroke victim may experience language unintelligibility and difficulties with speech comprehension without having suffered any hearing loss at all.

I am always skeptical of sweeping claims for substantial improvements in word recognition through hearing aids, having lived through the era of the "Zeta Noise Blocker" and other technologies that worked well in cotnrolled environments, but fall apart in the so-called "real world". As a result, I tend to be very suspicious regarding articles like the one I saw this morning (http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/160006.php) that claims to provide 50% improvement in word recongition for cochlear implant and hearing aid users.
