I am working on a medical/legal document about vericose vein surgery (sorry, context) and am not sure what vorstationäre Behandlung means.

Is it pre-surgery medical care/treatment?

there's also nachstationäre Behandlung and I'm sure an explanation of one would clarify the meaning of both terms since they're so similar.

where this term appears. It could be pre-op assessment as Sanni suggests, but it could also be sth else. We cannot know without the sentence ( or a paragraph, even better!) Thanks!

That may be an BE definition, but in AE, a day hospital is a hospital/clinic that offers day surgery, meaning the patient does not stay overnight:

Day care (or daycare) is used for child care centers, elder care for the elderly.

BTW "Day Hospital" or "Day Care" is more commonly used in mental helath and care of the elderly.

That's the term which would be most likely used in a British hospital (I used to be a nurse). I'm not sure what Americans or Australians use.

Agree with SJLD - day clinic, day hospital is used, no such thing as "semi-patient" treatment. Funnily enough, I've seen "stationär" translated as "stationary" by some hapless person.

The reason why I haven't been using that is because the same text also uses voll- und teilstationaeren Leistungen which I have been thinking of as full and partial inpatient services. Logically I don't know what a partial inpatient service could involve but could it be that they all refer to inpatient treatment because of the same word stem?

Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) is done prior to scheduled procedures, including surgery, or scheduled admissions to the hospital. All testing requires written orders from a physician which are forwarded to the Pre-Admissions and Access departments. The Access office will then call the patient to schedule the physician-ordered tests. All pre-admission tests are done 14 to 21 days before the surgery or scheduled admission.
