German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Instruments / Shoulder Treatment Device
German term or phrase: grundsätzlich (here)
"Mit [den Raspeln] wird der Schaftdurchmesser im Humerusmarkraum bestimmt, dabei ist der Zementmantel für die ***grundsätzlich*** zu zementierende Prothese berücksichtigt."

This is a rehash of my "Problem Phrase" question (please see http://www.proz.com/kudoz/782865). This time though, I'm concentrating on the word "grundsätzlich", which is by far the most troublesome part of the sentence for me, as I really can't work out what they're driving at with it. TIA for your help (input on the other question would also be appreciated).

English translation:always/invariably
Explanation:
die grundsätzlich zu zementierende Prothese = die Prothese, die grundsätzlich/immer zementiert wird (o. werden muss)

the diameter includes (the thickness of) the Zementmantel which the Prothese always/invariably requires

there could well be a more elegant way of putting it

agree  AMuller: I think this is right, what is meant that the implant/component/prosthesis should be cemented and not fixed in a different way, that's what they say for shoulder joint replacements anyhow
