German to English translations [PRO] Science - Medical: Instruments / X-ray technology | | German term or phrase: Brennbahn | The term relates to rotating anode X-ray tubes as used in radiology. The 'Brennbahn' is also referred to as the "röntgenaktive Schicht". I found the following via Google, which may help explain, but I couldn't find an English equivalent:
http://www.plansee.com/hlw/537_DEA_HTML.htm
"Metall-Drehanoden mit aufgelötetem Grafit bestehen aus einer dünnen Brennbahn aus Wolfram-Rheniumlegierung mit 5 oder 10 % Rhenium, an welche sich der TZM-Grundkörper anschließt, der auf eine unterschiedlich dicke Schicht aus reinstem Grafit aufgelötet ist." |

| Clarification request(s) and responseKen Cox: 8:49am Mar 1, 2005: Comment for Anne: Indeed, here 'Brennbahn' means the surface layer, not the track (imprecise usage). With a rotating target, the focal point travels along a circular path, so 'focal track' is used to refer to the area where the beam strikes the target. -

| brennbahn x-ray layer
Explanation: gets some googles, but no guarantees...
| | Note from asker to answerer| Thanks - I think this is the same thing but I needed an alternative in English as I used your suggestion for "röntgenaktive Schicht". |

| brennbahn target surface
Explanation: The website you found has an English version where you can find "x-ray targets" as equivalent to the "Drehanode"; there they use the term "target surface".

| Note from asker to answererThank you for your suggestion - I had another look at the plansee site and found the following which made me decide to go for "focal path":
"Graphite backed X-ray targets consist of a thin focal path of a tungsten-rhenium alloy with 5 or 10% rhenium, behind which is the TZM body. In turn it is brazed onto a layer of high purity graphite which varies in thickness."
