adsorbent is acc. to Tabor's interchangeable with absorbent. Here,
I found in Muret-Sanders German>English
a machine, called absorber (elctr.&phys./techn.). Under adsorber I found only adsorption chromatography, which does not fit your context, because
this would be a method to detect absorbents/adsorbents.
The definition in the Duden for absorber
is: Vorrichtung zum Absorbieren von Gasen, Strahlen etc. (absorbieren=
auf-/einsaugen).
