This appears in a resume of a doctor. It is a title for a position he held at a hospital. What does the m.e.V. stand for?

Thanks for the answer which really appears in all your references. It was indeed a Swiss resume, which I unfortunately forgot to mention. But many thanks to the other answerers, particularly lirka, since I believe it is indeed equivalent to 'senior attending physician' in US English.

I'd just call such a doc "attending physician". In USA everyone would understand that s/he is the doc in charge, overseeing the patient care, thus having a greater responsibility
