Medical - Medical (general) / MRT findings
German term or phrase: signalvermehrt
Hi ProZ-Professionals!

This term appears in a findings report in the following context:

Die Supraspinatussehne and die Infraspinatussehne sind distal anteilig gering signalvermehrt.

The terms "signalnormal" and "signalarm" also appear. If I get some help with "signalvermehrt" I am sure I can figure out the other two terms.

Is this to do with the signal intensity? Would it be "increased signal intensity"?

Vielen Dank vorab!

increased signal intensity
Explanation:
In the healthy volunteer, images obtained before and during administration of 100% O2 demonstrated increased CSF signal intensity after O2 administration; this was identical to the changes observed in patients under anesthesia.

Recovery of increased signal intensity of the cervical cord on magnetic resonance imaging after surgery for spontaneous spinal epidural hematoma causing hemiparesis

A paradoxical signal intensity increase in fatty livers using opposed-phase gradient echo imaging with fat-suppression pulses
http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/klu/247/2008/00000038/...
The opposite is: reduced signal intensity resp. decreased signal intensity
Areas with reduced signal intensity were classified as the low signal group and those with no reduced signals were classified as the control group.
Does decreased T1 signal intensity in the retrodiscal tissue of the temporomandibular joint reflect increased density of collagen fibres?

signalarm = low signal intensity
Low signal intensity, poor enhancement on MRI may indicate malignancy.
http://www.highbeam.com/doc/1G1-106430333.html
Although there is agreement that low-intensity signal changes on T1-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images are a prognostic factor for poor outcome after surgical treatment of cervical myelopathy due to chronic cord compression, the role of high-intensity signal changes on T2-weighted images is still controversial.
http://thejns.org/doi/abs/10.3171/spi.2007.6.1.4
signalnormal = normal signal intensity
To study the normal signal intensity pattern in the primary auditory cortex (first Heschl gyrus [HG]) and the surrounding cortices in the superior temporal gyrus (STG) and middle temporal gyrus (MTG) on T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images.

hyperintense

Explanation:
vs. hypointense

--------------------------------------------------

***hyperintense signal***
Sagittal T2-weighted MR images showed hyperintense signal of the lesion along with few low signal areas within it (Fig. 2B). A note is made of degenerative changes at C4/5 and C5/6 level.
