Now I get it: the widow has to say it is alright for the mortician to write on the form what her hubby died of (It might be something really embarrassing for her, I won't go into details). So simple once you know !

as if the mortician filled in the form, as it is typed, and signed by someone other than the wife, but the "person in charge" of the arrangements is the spouse. Thanks everyone for all the help!

I saw this question after the "Einsargungserklärung" entry, but they obviously go together. In my opinion, what it means here that it is only permissible for the cause of death to be entered on the form (by someone else) if the person who would normally officially be in charge of the interment approves.

I would say this is to ensure that no cause of death is cited which is blatantly wrong (i.e. the "person in charge" could see if the corpse had bullet holes or a slashed neck or something). This is important in your case as the actual (deferred) burial is to take place somewhere quite different.

Presumably the person in charge will also sign the "Einsargungserklärung" (once we have successfully translated it)?
