Dieses Bild entspricht dem eines weit fortgeschrittenen, bereits exulzerierten Mammakarzinom. Am oberen Rand der Hautspindel befindet sich eine Fadenmarkierung. Diese wird vom Operateur an der 12-Uhr-Position angebracht, um dem Pathologen eine Orientierung hinsichtlich der Ausbreitung des Tumors an die Resektionsränder zu ermöglichen und gegebenenfalls an der entsprechenden Stelle eine Nachresektion durchzuführen.

Mastectomy specimens should be orientated by the surgeon, eg by placing a suture in the axillary tail. A diagram indicating the site of lesion (or lesions) may be helpful.
