German to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / Sinus Floor Elevation
German term or phrase: umfahren
"Das Implantat ragt zunächst nach dem Inserieren um die Differenz zwischen vertikalem Knochenangebot und Implantatlänge über den Kieferkamm hinaus.

Es wird mit einem entsprechenden Trepan bis kurz vor den Kieferhöhlenboden ***umfahren***."

From a text about a sinus floor elevation. I'm not sure what they're driving at with "umfahren" here. Ordinarily, I would be inclined to say "guided around", but the use of "bis" seems to negate that possibility. If the implant is being guided up to the maxillary sinus floor, it's not being guided around it, I don't think. TIA for your help.

Thanks kapsaski, Fantutti and Trudy too. Looks like it's dissected - what a strange choice of word though when there are much more common words available in German that mean dissect! But nothing else seems to fit, so I'll go with it. It does make reasonable sense, and there is at least that online source to quote if the client isn't happy with it. Thanks again to you all for your help.
