I need the proper metallurgical term here. Is stress the right term? TIA.

Beim Drechseln wird der Stahl durch die hohe Temperatur und die große Reibung an der Schneide stark beansprucht. Herkömmlicher Werkzeugstahl hält dieser Belastung nicht stand.
