Es hat sich gezeigt, dass bei Bedingungen, wo reines Glanznickel bereits zur Bäumchenbildung bzw. pulvriger Abscheidung neigt, unser Produkt lediglich matt wird.

I'm fairly sure that's what's meant here. If you look at a plated surface under a magnifying glass you can sometimes se this - the tiny cracks branch out from each other rather like a tree formation. Very common with older chrome plating.
