German to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Metallurgy / Casting | | German term or phrase: Abschnittswert | it's a text about cutting copper pipes.
Ferner fällt kein Abschnittswert wie z.B. beim Nachsägen an.
Ich denke mal, es betrifft das extra Maß, dass man für den Verschnitt mit einrechnet?! was in diesem Falle wegfällt?!
I don't think you can use cut-off here, because it has too many connotations. |

| | cutting allowance | Explanation: Occasionally, the term saw-cut allowance is used, but we always talked about a "cutting allowance" in both woodwork and metalwork at school. I've googled "cutting allowance" and a lot of the hits seem to apply to similar situations to yours. There's a good tube and pipe glossary at www.schoellerbleckmannpt.com (link below). |

Example sentence(s):- This is most commonly 2.4 metres and sets the minimum length for a log - to which is commonly added 0.1m as a cross--cutting allowance - a safety allowance for inaccurate measurement, inaccurate cutting and damage in transport or processing.
- The required cutting allowance is to be agreed with the customer in any case.
