Seit etwa 15 Jahren werden beim Aluminium-Recycling mechanische Aufbereitungsverfahren eingesetzt, mittels denen gebrauchte Aluminiumteile von Verunreinigungen befreit werden. Die Teile werden hierzu zerkleinert und mittels **Prall- und Reibmahltechniken** in die unterschiedlichen Bestandteile aufgelöst und mittels Sieb-, Sicht-, elektrostatischen und/oder magnetinduktiven Verfahren gereinigt.
