the term here. "Dichter" Packung IMO is also correct, as Packung here means the number of units fit into the same space. A dichte Packung has less void space than does a lose Packung.

I think the phrase posted should be "auf Lücke versetzt", not "dichter auf Lücke". "Dichter" goes with "Packung" ("in the interests of denser packing"). I see the structure of the sentence as: Der Container ist hier zusätzlich mit zwei X ausgebildet, die (im Interesse dichter Packung) auf Lücke dagegen versetzt und parallel dazu [sind].
