From a review of a surround sound system:

"Hier hilft es, die Frontspeaker nicht auf die Hörposition anzuwinkeln, sondern parallel zu platzieren. So geht zwar manchen Aufnahmen etwas an Intimität verloren, doch gewinnt auf der anderen Seite die **Breitenstaffelung** leicht dazu."

I used "sound width" on its own in the end. Not entirely sure that it is really possible to 'arrange a sound width'. So many different answers it was hard to know for sure, but Bernards's links seem to check out and he was more 'confident' than anyone else. Thanks for all the ideas.
