German term or phrase: auftrumpfen
Auftrumpfen vor dem Sieg

This is the heading for a section in CD liner notes about Beethoven's Fifth. The writer has just discussed the first movement, hurries through the 2nd and 3rd movements to get to the last movement, describing its exceptional characteristics, which any of you who have gotten this question will be familiar with.
I'm having a problem with this heading because it doesn't really make sense to me. The writer points out how - despite the first movement's incredible qualities - the last movement really turns out to be the high point of the whole symphony. Which is of course true. Any ideas?

jubilation
Explanation:
"jubilation before victory" - I realize that Auftrumpfen is more "outperform" but in your context not entirely appealing.

Thanks - this is exactly what I needed; experimented with some synonyms like exultation, but landed up with j. again.

trascendence

Explanation:
I think you have a number of options.

Presumably "Auftrumpfen" is being used largely in line with its dictionary definition: eine Überlegenheit deutlich zeigen, unter Beweis stellen: [mit Rekorden] a

I focused on this Überlegenheit, and the musicality inherent in this English word, though I believe there are other possibilities.

except it should be: transcendence

Asker: Thanks for your help, Henry! "Transcendence" in the context is a little too calm, however; I needed something a little more frenetic!
