A bit more from the liner notes:

Das Resultat ist beachtlich. Track für Track wächst (name of CD) zu einem Epos ohne Worte heran, jongliert mit Struktur und Auflösung. Musik entsteht, die organisch, geerdet und energisch wirkt.

Might this be "earthy", or am I on the wrong track?

'Beard of Bees' is an album that pretty well does no wrong. Yes, it's firmly rooted in its genre…

Endlich mal wieder geerdete Musik ohne Firlefanz. Lapko aus Finnland zeigen wie es geht. Das Trio verzichtet bei seiner Musik vollständig auf Hilfe von außen. Mit Gitarre, Bass, Drums und natürlich Gesang klingt diese Musik absolut pur.

Alternatively, 'down to earth' (minus hyphens unless there is a noun to follow). Not the same as 'earthy' (=crude, unsophisticated), IMO.

I decided to use "rooted in its genre" in the end, though there's definitely a case for using "unpretentious" or "down to earth" as well. Thanks for your help!

neutral  Andrew Swift: Like a plane that can't take off? English school pupils use this term to mean that their parents have told them they can't go out for a week.

neutral  Max Hellwig: "geerdet" is grounded in a strictly electrical sense, though the english translation is wider and therefore easier to misunderstand

-> The author had the option to use 'erdig' but preferred the past participle form 'ge----t' (English: '----ed'), presumably for a reason.

agree  casper: Hmm...I really like your 'rooted in its genre' (=refined, sophisticated, IMO)

agree  Bernhard Sulzer: rooted - my fav; true to the genre.
10 hrs

neutral  Aisha Prigann: I like the expression 'rooted in its genre', but I'm not sure if it fits the given context as genre is not mentioned. 'Unpretentious', however, does fit.
