German term or phrase:sich ergänzende Gestaltungskraft
Not quite sure what this means either - in the same liner notes context:
Und sie (die Klangvorstellungen) enden nicht bei seinem Instrument, sondern bauen auch auf die Energie des Quartetts, auf die Wucht einer sich ergänzenden Gestaltungskraft.
Explanation: I do think this is about synergy - the combined power of the two elements being more than the sum of the individual parts.

How can it be Guns N’ Roses without guitar guru Slash? It can’t.
How can Slash’s solo career match his Guns glories without Axl? It can’t.
Like Daltrey and Townshend; Plant and Page; Jagger and Richards; Tyler and Perry, it was the synergy of the two talents that made the original Hollywood hellraisers what they once were.

Musically, five of these eight compositions are the work of Pegues, two are Ali-Benali's with one, "Cold and Happy", being credited to Benabes. Pegues also helped out Daly with the lyrics on three compositions. These details, whilst they are of import to the individuals themselves, are of no matter to the music as any artistic differences are smoothed by the synergy of the band's overall contribution, to the extent that the album, despite having three different musical composers and being nearly two years in the making, has a very coherent feel.
You make me sound like an excitable puppy. I was hoping to appear rather more professional than that. I would just say that there is always more than one way of expressing things in German as well as in English.
Helen's creative force and enthusiasm, I wonder if this somewhat flamboyant text would not have used something like "Synergie" or an adjective related to it, if that was the intent. And since they are not part of the question I would suggest that "Energie" und "Wucht" should show up in the translation. And it is not merely "energy" (the German implies more) , it would have to be characterised, maybe as "vibrant"; and "Wucht" (the dictionary rendering "impetus" is weak) can't be just implied. Close, but unsuitable is "heft", but something like "impact", " charge" with an adjective like "massive" or "robust" might come nearer. Just to suggest what the German conveys, and I'd prefer leaving the choices to the native speakers.
In view of the fact that you already have "Energie" and "Wucht" in the sentence, I'd probably avoid another word like "power" for this part.

Explanation: "Complementary" - although correct - sounds so passive. The whole sentence is full of dynamic words and "reciprocal" sounds more active to me. Perhaps something like "...but build on the energy of the quartet, on the momentum of a reciprocal creative force" could work.
