German to English translations [PRO]
Art/Literary - Music
German term or phrase: über den Bereich des Menschlichen,
It is in a sentence that describes the second movement of Beethovens 9. symphony.
I can't make out wheter 'über den Bereich des Menschlichen' means positive or negative.
(The speaker is being positive about the movement for sure. )
Does that mean something like "not too much human, not too muchsentimental "?
The context is:

Thank you for your help.

agree  casper: 'Transcends' is good. How about 'transcends the human realm' or 'transcends the human experience' ?

(moves) above the human (sphere)

Explanation:
One is tempted to say "zone". The text wobbles between the overly nonchalant ("rausgeht", or "wahnsinnig" for exceedingly) and the more pretentious ("Hymnisches"), in a way that might be hard to replicate. The "human sphere" is seen as "mere subjectivity", somewhat self-indulgent.

goes a bit beyond the human realm

Explanation:
I agree that the word "rausgeht" is important because the sentence wouldn't make any sense otherwise. This is the first thing that popped into my mind.

[which is/goes] a bit beyond the usual reach of human emotion

Explanation:
This is an expansive rather than conservative translation; the insertion of 'usual' is a bit risky, but I think it is justified, since the passage goes on to specify indentifiable states of mind: ' just what feeling is expressed,' ' whether optimistic or pessimistic...'
