German term or phrase: ausübende Musik
Liebe Kollegen,

Explanation:
He just does it regularly, but not professionally, I assume, otherwise he would say so.

the other, "schöpferische Musik" would be "composing"

neutral  efreitag: Woher die Idee des "not professionally"?/I have no idea how you come to this conclusion (if at all, I'd assume the contrary here), but with so little context, we can't be sure indeed.

-> Because if he were a professional, he would certainly add that in his CV! It could also mean that he's a music teacher, there's really not enough context to be certain.//See my discussion entry.

neutral  writeaway: Musiker or Musik (there are also listeners and critics etc, not just composers. and composers can also perform.....)/@efreitag: try telling that to music critics/musicologists :)

agree  efreitag: Yes, my first thought as well. Maybe even performer vs. creator?/As regards writeaways comment: Neither listeners nor critics are "schöpferisch", nor "ausübend".

neutral  Ramey Rieger: I believe he would say performer, as it is an absolutely universal term. The person makes music, that's about it as far as the context allows
