German term or phrase: das hoert sich ja verdammt gut an mit dem Picknick
an email from my friend in response to my informing him that we're obligated to attend a company picnic during his next visit to the U.S.
Marcy
English translation:"...the picnic sounds great/wonderful/super/terrific/fine/like fun..."
Explanation:
Tom's answer is fine but the use of the word "idea" makes it sound as though there is some sort of problem that will be solved by going to (or having) the picnic.

If this is not the case, the translation could be shorter:

"...the picnic sounds great/wonderful/super/terrific/fine/like fun..." My choice would be "like fun".

Use of the English word "damned", which is the right translation for "verdammt", sounds overdone and unnecessarily strong but then so does "verdammt".

Thanks, Dan. Your expanation was very helpful. It was the "verdammt" that threw me off in the first place. I, too, thought it was pretty strong for this situation, but thought maybe I was missing something in the translation.

that picnic sounds like a damn good idea

Explanation:
other ways to say it, perhaps more common, would be _that (a) picnic sounds like a great/terrific/super idea_; that's a great idea about that picnic etc.
